CAES International Lectureship Program

The UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ (CAES) International Lectureship Program provides financial, logistical and administrative support to CAES departments seeking to bring high-caliber international researchers to campus during the fall or spring semesters.

Purpose:

The purpose of the International Lectureship Program is to improve CAES research collaboration with top-ranked international institutions by inviting international researchers to visit the University of Georgia to:

  • Deliver an lecture with broad, multi-departmental appeal
  • Deliver a departmental seminar geared towards a specific academic discipline
  • Deliver a guest lecture in at least one CAES course
  • Interact with departmental faculty and graduate students to explore opportunities for research collaboration
  • Champion opportunities for research collaboration with home institution
  • Explore funding streams for collaborative research as appropriate

Nominating a speaker

CAES department heads may email nominations directly to Associate Dean for Research Harsha Thippareddi and Assistant Dean for International Programs Todd Applegate.  Nominations should include the following information:

  • Name, position and institution of nominated speaker
  • Brief narrative on how a visit by the invited speaker will support departmental research goals
  • Proposed topic(s) for departmental seminar
  • Proposed topic for CAES-wide lecture
  • Identified course(s) for guest lecture opportunity
  • Brief description of research collaboration potential with invited speaker and/or their home institution

Please note: The deadline for nominations each year is Aug. 7.

Support and funding

Support from CAES Office of Research and Office of International Programs will include the following for one speaker per department per fiscal year:

  • Two-thirds of travel expenses associated with the visit up to $5,000. The nominating department is expected to cover remaining expenses
  • Logistical support for incoming visitor including letter of invitation, travel and hotel reservations and itinerary scheduling, as needed
  • Promotion of CAES-wide lecture
